Candlestick, chamberstick or small candle cup?
Begin with the form rather than a maker’s name. Record whether the piece has a tall stem, a handle, a drip-catching dish or a compact cup. Ask for overall height, base width and socket diameter, including any insert that accompanies the object.
A decorative bowl is not necessarily a candle holder. A molded seam or faceted surface also does not establish age or prove that a piece is crystal. Keep the seller’s material and maker attribution separate from your description of the visible shape.
Inspect chips, cracks and joined sections
Request close photographs of the socket rim, base edge and every join. Tiny losses near the candle socket may be hard to see in a brightly lit display image. Ask specifically about glued stems, replaced components and cracks hidden by wax residue.
Do not use a metal tool to scrape an uncertain surface or expose a crack. A repair can be acceptable for protected display while making live-candle use inappropriate. Material identification and condition are more informative than a general promise of age-consistent wear.
Choose candle fit before arranging the table
Check that the intended candle fits securely without being forced into the socket. If the object’s original purpose or condition is uncertain, use it as a display piece or choose a suitable flameless alternative. An old glass object should not be assumed heat-resistant.
For any live flame, follow the candle maker’s instructions, keep adequate clearance from combustible objects and never leave it unattended. Place the holder on a stable suitable surface. A pleasing photograph of candles beside curtains is not an installation guide.
Make a pair or a collected group
Compare both holders individually: height, base size, socket shape and color. Two similar pieces may be an assembled pair. If you prefer a varied group, repeat one feature and avoid a crowded arrangement that makes individual pieces difficult to handle.

Are all sparkling candle holders crystal?
No. Appearance alone does not identify the glass composition.
Can every antique glass holder take a burning candle?
No. Purpose, condition and suitability need to be established; a flameless display is an alternative.
